The Specials

It seems that each of our brews comes with a story... sometimes by foresight and sometimes in retrospect. The Specials reflect an intentionality that goes beyond, "Hey, wanna brew?"

THE FOUNDERS

It all began with the Founders... our first brew and one we return to annually. Sierra Nevada Celebration was the initial inspiration; however, subsequent years led us to a wide variety of IPA variations.

THE MAGGIES

Maggie was our first brewery dog. Sadly, she left us way too early. Each year through the teens, we brewed a highly hopped, high ABV winter ale as a tribute. While each year produced an ale with its own personality, spruce was the common denominator.

THE WEDDINGS

Throughout the before times we had the privilege to produce beer to help celebrate the weddings of family, friends and Luddites. These events are doubly joyous with both the brew day and subsequent reception well remembered.

THE REQUESTS

Other special occasions require from us a brew... these include tributes to Luddite significant others**, house concerts and brews marking Luddite life changes.

**note that in all such cases the Luddite serves as the plus one to the stars of our sky.

THE NONSECULAR REQUESTS

...and once every five hundred years, the Luddites are asked to mark the 500th anniversary of the reformation with a red ale...

THE GOSE SERIES & THE KÖLSCH SERIES

...and sometimes we look back to find that by intent or happenstance we've brewed the same style a half dozen or more times... the Gose and the Kölsch are two non-IPA styles we find ourselves coming back to time and again.

THE PAELLAS

Food has always been part of the brew day experience starting with breakfast at The Volunteer Park Café and evolving into full on feasts once The Queen of Tarts opted to join The Luddites. Paella, however, represents an opportunity for Killick to  engage in yet another overproduction!
